Students attending public high schools in Jefferson Parish may apply for scholarships in the fall of their senior year.  Most recipients receive four-year scholarships to Louisiana colleges or universities.  These scholarships can be added to TOPS funding and to other scholarships a student may have received. Collaborative relationships between Jefferson Dollars for Scholars and Louisiana universities increase scholarship values for the four years a student attends that specific school. Some scholarships may be used at any accredited college or university. Current scholarship recipients attend 36 college and universities nationwide.

Currently, a student must have a minimum of a 3.0 weighted GPA and AT LEAST a 20 cumulative ACT score or higher in order to apply for scholarship consideration. View more guidelines and requirements.

Here are what some current scholarship recipients have to say about their Jefferson for Dollars award:

... I am extremely honored to be a recipient of the Capital One Bank scholarship. Your sponsorship has made it possible for me to seek knowledge and greatness at Susquehanna University, where I will major in Business Administration. By easing some of my financial burdens, you have provided me with more time to concentrate on my studies and, for that, I will always be grateful to you, Capital One Bank, and the Jefferson Dollars for Scholars program. ...
~ Helen Cox graduate, Class of 2009

... School is going great. The first semester, I made the Dean's List. ... I am so excited and cannot wait for my sophomore year of college to start. This is the first time in my life that I have been this excited to go back to school. I actually enjoy going to my classes and hearing what my professors have to say. I always see it as an adventure. ... I want to thank you again for the scholarship. The money is so helpful. I hope to make you proud and eventually become an elementary teacher.

ACT preparation program

Free ACT Preparation classes are offered to Jefferson Parish Public High School students on a rotating school-by-school basis each year.  Some of the classes are designed as refresher strategy classes, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield.  Others are 6-week classes focused on the college-bound student just missing TOPS eligibility.  To the TOPS is funded by The Patrick F. Taylor Foundation and taught by Alex Gershanik of The Power Courses. Over the past two years, Jefferson Parish Public School students who have participated in this course have qualified for $1 million in TOPS funding. Please contact your school counselor for more information.

To The Tops helps!

...You will be happy to know...that my scholarship money from Loyola University has increased due to...a higher ACT score. Thanks to your very "unique" class and a LOT of studying, I have managed to pull my score up. Not only did I score high enough to qualify for TOPS, but I scored three points higher.
